This is absolutely my favorite Deborah Bladon book so far. I hate serials because waiting for the next installment is a pain, but with Ms. Bladon I just can't help myself, I have to withstand the pain-of-waiting because her stories are THAT terrific. Sophia and Nicholas are great characters, and I love how Ms. Bladon weaves other characters and locations from past books into her stories. There were a few editing issues, which usually bother me, but didn't with this book - yep, it's THAT good. But now I'm "TENSE"-ly waiting for the next/final installment. I really enjoyed this book. I chose this rating because the characters were really amazing. Nick was so arrogant and so sure himself. Sophia shut him down several times. But eventually she got caught, because Nick was up for the chase. I really enjoyed reading this book about Sophia and Nicholas and their relationship and how it got started. But things had to come to a halt when Nicholas accused Sophia of doing something that was not like her at all, which I really don't believe she did somebody. I've got to read the next book to find out what happened. Great read though. I recommend this book to all romance readers.
Ms. Bladon is one of my favorite authors of interesting stories and wonderful romance. I've just started "Tense" and already love the characters and the story line--I met Sophia in an earlier book and am glad that she is back as that same personality.
Her books are realistic feeling and they have been proof read and are for adults who read a lot. I am reading this slower because I cannot finish the entire story--I have to wait for the second half---(
I decided to catch up and fill in the missing books from all the Deborah Bladen series. I had thought I read this before but I had not reviewed it, so decided to read it again. It was great. So many characters revisited from other series, it's like a huge happy family.....well, except when it isn't. Tense finally gave a story to one of the characters I've been waiting to hear more from. Sophia. She turned out to be more diverse than I had anticipated. This was a great read and I couldn't wait to read part 2.
What the HELL? The ending sucks you in making getting to the second book an immediate need. Nicholas Wolf, author meetings Sophia Wolf, executive assistant to Mr. Foster during the day and clothing designer at night. Sophia has yet to get noticed but, that seems to be changing. Nicholas is tired of one night stands and Sophia has never had one. After tirelessly chasing her, they finally tumble into bed together. As with ALL Deborah Blandon books the sex is incredibly HOT! Nicholas is of course an alpha male, Sophia responses to that in the bedroom but, not in life. Sophia is resourceful, rising star. What the hell happens at the end I do NOT know but, I am going to find out.
Nicholas is a famous writer of detective novels, Sophia is on the subway to get a book signed by Nicholas for her boss when they meet. He is a man whore who picks up woman because of his notoriety . He pursues Sophia when she doesn't show up for lunch with him, he has a huge ego. She researched him after he sighed a book, this is the way he picks up woman he put a time and date to meet for lunch in the book. She wasn't willing to be treated like trash, he pursued her relentlessly because she was different. They start dating and Nicholas knows this woman is different he wants more. He is writing a new book and gives Sophia the flash drive to read it. A short time later, he finds his book is online sold by someone for One million dollars. Nicholas accuses Sophia of selling his book, she is devastated he doesn't trust her. He dumps her and promises to get her fired from her job. Cliffhanger ****

Nicholas (Nick) and Sophia.......
Although I have rated each book differently with stars, I am writing a single review based on both parts. Since this review is being posted to both volumes, I will make sure to avoid any spoilers in case you haven't read both. Book one does end in a cliffhanger.
Sophia is a beautiful, independent woman. She works for a well-known top NYC designer as a personal assistant. Sophia is excellent at her job and as far as her boss is concerned, she is irreplaceable. But Sophia has her own dreams for the future which don't include her current occupation. Unfortunately her confidence is low and she is wary and more than a little hesitant to take a chance. That said, all it takes is a captivating and sexy man to give her the push of encouragement she needs. Unfortunately after she finds the courage and confidence to pursue her dreams, something unforeseen takes place to threaten what means the most to her.
Nicholas Wolf is a famous novelist. His specialty is writing detective novels. Nick is very successful as well as cocky and arrogant. There were times I got the feeling he believed himself entitled and could have anything and anyone he wanted.
Until he sets his sights on Sophia.
Nick soon finds out what rejection feels like and that he isn't going to get what he wants. Nick will have to chance his strategy if he wants a chance with Sophia. It's is not long before he realizes she is special. I was so happy Sophia made Nick work for a chance with her.
Nick and Sophia go through ups and downs. Both are keeping secrets. Both are wary of the growing feelings they are having towards each other. There were times I wanted to reach into the story and slap Nick for his arrogance and assumptions. But don't worry, he did redeem himself to me.
As well as the angst between Nick and Sophia, there are misunderstandings, threats and and a lot of regret and remorse thrown at them. In addition to the relationship challenges, there is an element of danger waiting for its chance to strike.
As a whole, I really enjoyed the Tense duet. I do admit that it was the second book that made the story better in my opinion. I don't like cliffhangers and if I can help it, I avoid them. I'll warn you there is a cliffhanger at the end of book one. That said I waited until book two in the duet was available and read them both back to back.
There is a happy ending which I loved. I'm looking forward to this author's next book.
